Birth27 Mar 1900 Emma Leta Dunn was born on 27 Mar 1900 in Plasterco, Virginia.1 
Cens-190027 Jun 1900  Her parents were enumerated in June of that year living in the home of her widowed grandfather, Thomas Dunn, in Saltville, Washington County, Virginia. Emma's 2 half siblings, Georgia and Lynch were also recorded.2 
1903  Thomas Dunn died in 1903. 
Cens-191028 Apr 1910 Emma and her family lived with Emma's great aunt Florence Dunn in the old Dunn home on route 751, north of Glade Spring, from 1909 until Florence died in 1914. Emma continued to live in the house until she graduated in 1919.3,4 
  She taught school for 2 years in small communities near Bristol, and then went to Memphis to attend Sacred Heart Institute, where she took business courses. Tiring of the Memphis heat Emma moved to Tulsa where her brother Harry lived. She briefly worked in Tulsa as a substitute teacher but then moved on to Kansas City where she worked in a bookstore. Emma returned to Virginia in early 1924, before her marriage to Carter Ryburn.5 
Marriage8 Oct 1924 She married Carter White Ryburn, son of Edward Green Ryburn and Mary Glenn Oliver, on 8 Oct 1924 in Bristol, Tennessee.1 
  They were 4th cousins. 
Residence1928 Following the death of Emma's father, she and Carter moved from Glade Spring back to the old Dunn log home just outside of town. Their three youngest children, Jack, Ralph and Carolyn were all born in the house. Emma and Carter lived there until about 1948.6,7 
Residence1948  After the war they moved to a house on Forest Hill Drive in Glade Spring, across the street from the home Carter's parents had owned. Here they lived until their deaths in the 1980s.6 
Death25 Apr 1985 Emma died on 25 Apr 1985 in Virginia at age 85.8,1 
Burial27 Apr 1985 She was buried on 27 Apr 1985 in Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia, with the Rev. Charles Elyea presiding.1,9

Emma and Carter
The home at Plasterco (near Saltville), Virginia where Emma and her siblings were born. It belonged to their paternal grandparents, Thomas and Caledonia Dunn.10
