Birth30 May 1875 Edward Green Ryburn was born on 30 May 1875, in either Hinton, West Virginia or Glade Spring, Virginia.3,4,5,6,2
Edward may have been named for his Uncle Edward Ryan who was killed during the Civil War.
Land-Buy15 Apr 1898 Edward and his brother White bought thirteen acres of land lying between the Saltville Turnpike (now Forest Hill Drive) and the railroad tracks, just west of Glade Spring, on April 15th 1898. They each paid Kate M. Hardy $450.00 for the land, which she had bought in 1893 from Mrs. Phoebe Smyth. Interestingly, Mrs. Smyth had purchased the land in 1888 from William McRyburn, the brother's grandfather.7
Marriage4 Oct 1899 He married Mary Glenn Oliver, daughter of Isaac Henry Oliver and Margaret Redding, on 4 Oct 1899.1
Cens-19006 Jun 1900 In June 1900 when the census was recorded Edward and his new wife were living with his parents in the Glade Spring district of Washington County, Virginia.8
Cens-19101910  Ten years later Edward and Mary were living in their own home on the land Edward had purchased across the street. Their family now included 5 sons: Carter, Edward, Isaac, Glen and Kenneth. The boys ranged in age from nine to just under two.9,5
Cens-19207 Jan 1920  When the census was again recorded, in January of 1920, a daughter Sadie (age 9) had joined the boys. Cora Redding, Mary's aunt, was also living with the family.6
Cens-193026 Apr 1930  By 1930 Mary's brother, Robert Oliver, had also moved in.10
Occupation Edward worked in several occupations. The 1900 census states that he was an electrician but by 1910 he was in the livery business. He and his brother Arthur purchased a livery stable in Glade Spring in 1911, about the time automobiles were beginning to replace horsedrawn vehicles. By 1924 the brothers sold the livery business and opened a garage.11,5,8
Death11 Oct 1942 Edward died on 11 Oct 1942 at age 67.1
Reinterred He was reinterred in Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, Virginia, sometime during the early 1960s. Edward had been previously buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery but his body was moved after his wife visited the cemetery one day and found pigs belonging to a neighboring farmer rooting around in the cemetery.12
