On her death the land was to be divided between his sons William, Samuel, John and Abram. William also left her a Negro man named Edmund, a woman named Barbary, and her child Campbell. William's son, Robert, who would leave home (or had left) to join the California gold rush, received $800 and a horse, but was not to receive a share of the land. William also stipulated that his daughter Martha was to receive support while she remained single. William named his "brother-in-law" John Clark as his executor. The will was recorded in Washington County court on May 28, 1849.10
