Birth7 Jun 1838 Samuel Dunn Allison was born on 7 Jun 1838 in Washington County, Virginia.5 
Fath-Death7 May 1849  Samuel's father died in May 1849. 
Ward22 Oct 1849  A few months later Samuel became the ward of his uncle John Clark. However John Clark died in 1854 by which time Samuel's older brother William was old enough to assume responsibility for his youngest siblings.6,3 
Marriage9 Jan 1861 He married Susan Katherine Stevens, daughter of Robert Stevens, on 9 Jan 1861 in Washington County, Virginia.1 
Legatee28 Dec 1863 Samuel's mother died in late 1863. Her will, recorded that December, left him two beds, a blind gray mare, a share in her household furniture, stock, personal property and monies. She also stipulated that a note she held on Samuel be given to him. Samuel's wife was given a side saddle.4 
Devisee1865 Following his mother's death, the land left for her use by her husband (Samuel's father) was divided and Samuel received the 50 acre farm which adjoined the north side of the railroad in Glade Spring.7 
  Samuel sold the land to Hiram Thompson who built a hotel on it in 1868.8 
Cens-18801880 When the 1880 census was enumerated for Washington County Samuel and Susan were recorded living next door to his brother, Robert. Samuel and Susan's family included: Charles 14, Benjamin 12, Martha 8, and John, born the previous July. Missing were three children who died young: William, Robert and Minnie. The baby, John, would die a few years later.9 
Cens-19001 Jun 1900 In the mid 1890s Charles, Benjamin and Martha all married. The 1900 census enumeration found Benjamin living back home with Samuel and Susan. Benjamin's wife Fannie and 3 year old daughter were also present. At age 62 Samuel was still farming, as was Benjamin. Susan stated that she was the mother of 7 children, 3 of whom were living.10 
Death3 Apr 1905 Samuel died on 3 Apr 1905 at age 66.5 
Burial He was buried in the Allison-Hutton square at Old Glade Spring Cemetery, Washington County, Virginia.5
