Birth5 Jun 1835 Mary Love Clark was born at Glade Spring in Washington County, Virginia, probably on 5 Jun 1835 (Robert Henderson Bible record), although her headstone reports the date as the 4th.5,6,7
Marriage4 Sep 1856 She married Robert Hecter Henderson, son of Thomas Henderson and Helen Ley, on 4 Sep 1856 in Washington County.8
Mary Love Clark's first husband, Robert Henderson, had been previously married to Mary's cousin Minerva Ryburn. They had 3 children before Minerva died in 1852 at the age of 25.
WidowedAug 1858 Mary herself was widowed in Aug 1858 when Robert died of typhoid fever. They had been married less than two years and had a one year old son, Thomas.
Cens-186011 Jul 1860  Mary and Thomas returned to live with her parents where they were enumerated on the 1860 census.9,10
Marriage14 Mar 1861 She married second Samuel Robinson Pafford, son of Jesse Pafford and Rachel Robinson, on 14 Mar 1861 in Washington County.11
Anecdote Mary's sister Jane died in January 1862. Sometime after that Jane's husband, James Kelly Smyth, joined the Confederate army, and in 1863, Rachel Smyth, his daughter (and Mary's niece) was sent to live with an aunt who lived at Ebbing Spring on the Middle Fork of the Holston. I believe this aunt was Mary Love Clark. Years later Rachel wrote of this time and told of how an outbreak of flux occured which took the life of her aunt's son Thomas (Thomas, son of Mary Love Clark Pafford died in Aug. 1863).12
Marriage27 Aug 1867 She married third Joseph Snodgrass Hutton, son of Arthur Hutton and Eleanor Snodgrass, on 27 Aug 1867 in Washington County.13
Joseph had previously been married to Sarah Fudge who died in 1862.
Cens-18701870 Eight years after their marriage, Mary, and her third husband Joseph, were enumerated together living in Glade Spring township. Joseph's sons from his first marriage, James and William, were with them, as was two year old Ella, the first of the four daughters Joseph and Mary would have together. Missouri Neff, age 21, was living in their home as a housekeeper. She would later marry Joseph's brother James.14
Sarah, Joseph's daughter from his first marriage, appears to have been raised by Joseph's parents. She was enumerated in their household in 1870 and Joseph's father, Arthur Hutton, remembered her in his 1873 will, noting that she lived with him.
Cens-18803 Jun 1880 In 1880 Joseph and Mary's household included all 3 of Joseph's children (James, William and Sarah Josephine) as well as Joseph and Mary's four daughters: Ellen, Kate, Fannie and Mattie.15
Cens-190019 Jun 1900  Twenty years later the census taker again enumerated the couple. They had been married 31 years. Mary reported that she had given birth to 7 children, of whom only 4 were living.16
Cens-19106 May 1910  The same question was asked of her on the 1910 census. This time Mary stated that she was the mother of 4 children, all living.17 [neither statement may be accurate]
Death12 Jul 1912 Mary died on 12 Jul 1912 at age 77.7,18
Burial She was buried in the Allison-Hutton square at Old Glade Spring Cemetery, Washington County, Virginia.7
