Birth13 Feb 1813 Benjamin Reed was born on 13 Feb 1813.1 
Marriage8 Mar 1835 He married Phoebe (Hope) Snodgrass, daughter of James Hope and Margaret Dryden, on 8 Mar 1835 in Washington County, Virginia. Phoebe was the widow of Thomas Snodgrass.4 
Cens-185017 Sep 1850  Fifteen years after their marriage, Benjamin and Phoebe were enumerated on the 1850 census. Benjamin was employed as a blacksmith. Ten years later he was listed as a farmer. The couple do not appear to have had children.5,6 
Marriage27 Feb 1867 Benjamin married second Hettie Jane (Sharp) Rosenbalm, daughter of Benjamin Sharp and Margaret Montgomery Edmondson, on 27 Feb 1867 in Washington County.7 
  Hettie's first husband, Adam Rosenbalm, had died during the Civil War.  
Cens-187019 Sep 1870  The 1870 census enumeration for the Abingdon District included Benjamin and Hettie. He was 57 and she was 40. Also present was their 2 year old daughter Lucretia. Hettie's surviving daughter from her first marriage, Florence, was not recorded as part of the household.8 
Cens-188010 Jun 1880  An additional daughter was born following the census and named Blanche. The 1880 census household included Benjamin, Hettie, "Louisa" [Lucretia], and Blanche, along with Hettie's sister Mary Sharp.9 
Religion10 Jun 1881  Benjamin and Hettie were charter members of Bethel Presbyterian Church as was Mary Sharp. All 3 signed a petition on June 10, 1881 to organize the church. In Dec. 1882 Benjamin deeded a little over an acre of land to the congregation which had built a permanent church on the site in 1867.10 
Death25 Jun 1887 Benjamin died on 25 Jun 1887 in Washington County, Virginia, at age 74.2,1 
Burial He was buried at Bethel Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.1
