Marriage21 Oct 1813 She married William Buchanan, son of Mathew Buchanan and Elizabeth Edmiston, on 21 Oct 1813 in Washington County, Virginia.1,3 
  They appear to have raised a family of at least 9 children who survived to adulthood. 
Legatee30 Jan 1846  William wrote his will on January 30th 1846. He left Jane one third of his lands in Washington County and all his personal property with the exception of specific legacies to his children. He also stipulated that his son Andrew E. should remain on the plantation and care for his mother. And John K., who was not yet 21 was also to remain at home and help farm the land.5 
Widowed29 Mar 1846  William died 2 months later on 29 Mar 1846. 
Cens-18501850  The conditions of William's will appear to have been met as the 1850 census enumerated Jane running the family farm with the assistance of Andrew and John, and 2 slaves.6,7 
  John died two years later. 
Cens-186018 Aug 1860  In 1860 Andrew was recorded as the head of the household. He was 39 and single. Jane was 74. The farm was valued that year at $5,000.8 
Death9 Apr 1871 Jane died on 9 Apr 1871 at age 85.4 
Burial She was buried at Moore Cemetery in Washington County.4 
Will-Recd24 Apr 1871  Jane's will was written in 1858 but not recorded until April 24th, 1871. She left her estate to her son Andrew Buchanan with the stipulation that he was to pay his sisters Margaret Kelly and Elizabeth Kelly $100 each. Jane's grandson, Samuel Moore, son of her daughter Sarah, was also to receive $100 when he turned twenty-one. Her grandchildren Elizabeth and William Moore, children of her daughter Bathiah, were to each receive $50.9
