  7. [S1568] Letter, Eva Dunn Counts to Lucille Dunn Butt, dated Jan. 31, 1991, Dunn Family Files, Historical Society of Washington County Virginia. Mrs. Counts states that no record of the marriage of John Dunn and Mary McCullough exists at the Washington County courthouse. She lists several records that have contributed to the confusion over who this John Dunn married and when. For instance, a "McCullock Family Genealogy" Chart by Willis Corbitt lists the date as 1837 (by which time the couple had 3 children; The Thompson Twigs "McCulloch Family" uses 1828; the DAR application of Wilmina Rosetta (Dunn) Meadows (dated 1953 & approved 1954) uses abt 1833-34; the DAR application of Virginia (Dunn) Martin Beattie states that this John Dunn married Mary Barker 4 Feb. 1813. Mrs. Counts also notes that Gerald Clark (Bristol, TN) in his book From Whence They Came also states that William and Lydia Dunn's son John married Mary Baker, daughter of Isaac Baker.
Mrs. Counts, in an effort to clarify these discrepancies, researched the various wills and deeds at the Washington Co. courthouse. She discovered that a William Dunn from Frederick Co., VA bought land from one Isaac Baker. William had a brother named John (citing WB 9:86 - probate of William Dunn). Mrs. Counts concluded that this John married Mary Baker in 1813.

In a later letter to Lucille Butt, dated 11 Feb. 1991, Mrs. Counts also referenced 2 deeds dated May 31, 1832 (DB 11:89). The first is from John Baker and wife Susannah to John Dunn. The second is from John Dunn and wife Mary to John Baker and wife and is regarding Catherine Baker's interest in Isaac Baker's estate.
