Birth6 Nov 1841 Robert Henry Dunn was born on 6 Nov 1841 in Washington County.3,4 
Military3 May 1863 On 3 May 1863 Robert and his younger brother John enlisted in Company C of the 22nd Virginia Cavalry (known as Bowen's Mounted Riflemen) for a term of 3 years. By late 1864 Robert had been promoted to 3rd segeant. The men's older brother Theophilus served as the company's 2nd lieutenant, but was captured in the fall of 1863 and held prisoner for almost 2 years.5 
MigrationJun 1869  In 1869 Robert left Virginia and migrated west, settling in the community of Bethany in Harrison County, Missouri. Robert's older brother William Dunn had established himself in Bethany a few years earlier. The men built a successful dry goods business in the growing town.3,6 
Cens-187028 Aug 1870  The 1870 census recorded 24 year old Robert as the owner of personal property valued at $500. He headed a household that included James McCollum (a lawyer) and James Howe (a printer).7 
Marriage He married Clara Blackburn.3 
Cens-Sum  Robert and Clara were the parents of 3 children. Their eldest child, a daughter named Mary, was born in 1874 and died in 1878. Daughter Helen and son Horace were enumerated with Robert and Clara in 1910 at which time 26 year old Horace worked as a salesman in the family dry good's store. Shortly after the census enumeration Horace married and established his own home a few doors away.

Robert and Clara's residence in both 1910 and 1920 was listed as Alder St. in Bethany. Robert retired by 1921 and the family business, which had grown into a department store occupying several floors in the center of town, was then owned by Robert's son Horace Dunn, Horace's cousin John H. Cuddy, and W.T. Templeman.8,9,10,6 
Death12 May 1935 Robert died from uremia on 12 May 1935 in Bethany, Harrison County, Missouri, at age 93.1 
Burial14 May 1935 He was buried on 14 May 1935 at Miriam Cemetery in Bethany.1
