Marriage He married Elizabeth Orr, daughter of Arthur Orr.5 
Land-Buy26 May 1805  Jon purchased 28 acres from Mathew and Elizabeth Buchanan in May 1805. It was part of a larger tract sold by William Edmiston to Andrew Buchanan in 1775 and by Andrew's widow Joanna to Mathew Buchanan in 1799.6 
Will5 Mar 1831  John wrote his will on March 5, 1831, just one week before his death. He left his land to his son Hugh, provided Hugh pay the following amounts to John's daughters: Jane Graham $200, Peggy Graham and Isabella Moffett $100 each. The monies arising from the sale of John's personal estate were to be divided between his three sons: Arthur, James and John. John also mentioned a grandson, Benjamin Reid.1 
Death12 Mar 1831 John died on 12 Mar 1831.3 
Burial He was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Will-Recd15 Mar 1831  John's will was recorded March 15, 1831, with Arthur and Hugh executors.1 
Probate Recd23 Jan 1837  John's estate was settled in January 1837. The following payments were recorded: William Moffett ($100), James Graham ($200), Benjamin Reed ($57.00), James Reed ($179.91), Arthur Reed ($179.91), John Reed ($179.91) and Margaret Graham ($100).7
