Will-Recd18 Feb 1817  James wrote his will in June 1814. It was proved in court on Feb. 18, 1817. The will left his tract of 224 acres to his sons James, as well as the personal property left after paying $2 to each of James's other children: John, Margaret Ryburn and Elizabeth Snodgrass. He also left daughter Jennet a Negro boy named Lewis. The will remembered his daughter Margery and referred to her as Margery Longwell.3
James's surname was not spelled consistently during his lifetime. His headstone uses "Raid" so I have chosen to use that on this page. However other records created during his lifetime use Reed or Reid. His children do not appear to have spelling it consistently either, using Reed, Reid or even Read.
