Birth31 Dec 1815 Elizabeth Buchanan was born on 31 Dec 1815.3 
Legatee22 Oct 1826  Elizabeth's father left Elizabeth and her sisters Margaret and Jane, and their brothers James and Philip, the balance of his estate after he gave his land to their brothers Hastings, Mathew and John. They were also to receive an equal share of income from the hiring out of their father's slaves which was to occur until Moses, the youngest of their siblings, came of age.1 
Marriage She married Richard Montgomery, son of Richard Montgomery and Elizabeth McCall.2 
Cens-185012 Sep 1850  Richard and Elizabeth do not appear to have had children. They lived in Washington County, Virginia with Richard's widowed mother and unmarried sisters. Elizabeth's widowed mother also lived in the neighborhood.4 
Death17 Jan 1856 Elizabeth died of consumption, probably on 17 Jan 1856 at age 40. However, the Washington County death register includes 2 entries under her name; one for 15 Jan. 1855 and one for 15 June 1856.5,2 
Burial She was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3

  1. [S618] Moses Buchanan will (exhibited 21 June 1827/ 17 Jul. 1827), Washington Co., Virginia, Will Book 5: 356. The will was written 22 Oct. 1826. It mentioned wife Joanna, sons Hastings, Mathew, John, James, Philip and daughters Margaret, Elizabeth and Jane (Buchanan); also brother William and youngest child Moses Campbell Buchanan. The witnesses were James Edmondson and Samuel Edmondson. As no executor was named Joanna Buchanan was appt administrix. She posted bond in the amt of $5,000 with William Buchanan, John Katron, Robert Keys and James Edmondson providing security.

[S2268] Research of Tom Colley, Hanceville, Alabama; Mr. Colley cites the Washington County Death Register originally held by the Virginia Bureau of Vital Statistics and viewed as Library of Virginia microfilm reel #30 which contains 2 entries for Elizabeth: Elizabeth Montgomery, d. 15 Jan 1855, age 40y, consumption, d/o Moses & Joannah Buchanan, consort of Richard Montgomery, reported by husband; also a second entry: Elizabeth Montgomery, d. 15 Jun 1856, age 38y, consumption, d/o Moses & Rosanna Buchanan, consort of Richard Montgomery, reported by husband.
