Birth30 May 1851 Mary Jane Jones was born on 30 May 1851 in Smyth County, Virginia.3,2 
Marriage16 Sep 1873 She married William Joseph Crenshaw, son of George Sanders Crenshaw and Margaret Wilson Buchanan, on 16 Sep 1873 in Washington County.4 
  Mary and William settled in Washington County after their marriage. William's parents moved from Smyth County to Washington County about the same time and settled in the Chestnut Ridge area. 
Cens-188016 Jun 1880  In 1880 the young couple were enumerated living in the same household as William's parents. William's occupation was listed as "farmer."5 
ChildDeathJul 1890  William and Mary's son Andrew died from typhoid in 1890 at the age of 8. 
Widowed19 Jan 1899 On 19 Jan 1899 William also died, leaving 47 year old Mary with 7 children. Two of the older children, George and Margaret, married within a few months following William's death. 
Cens-190013 Jun 1900  In 1900 Mary was enumerated as the head of a household that included "Vint J." [John Vincent] (14), Annie (12), Willie (7) and Edna (5).6 
ChildDeathSep 1904  Anne died 4 years later, in the fall of 1904. 
Cens-191021 Apr 1910  In 1910 Mary at age 58 was again recorded on the federal census, however, this enumeration clarified the location. She was living on Chestnut Ridge road, as was William's brother James. Still at home with Mary, (whose occupation was listed as "farming") were John, "Nona" [Benona] and Edna.7 
  The relatives in the family referred to Mary Jane as "Aunt Jenny". However, Mary E. Virginia (Thompson) Crenshaw, who was married to William's brother James, was also known as Jenny. In order to keep them straight family members referred to them as Aunt-Jenny-Will and Aunt Jenny-Jim.8 
Death27 Mar 1914 Mary died on 27 Mar 1914 in Washington County at age 62.3,2 
Burial She was buried at Wolfe Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3
