b. 17 May 1830, d. 15 November 1914
Birth | 17 May 1830 | Florence Virginia Dunn was born on 17 May 1830.1,2 |
Residence | | Florence and her sister Emma (Emily) remained in the Dunn family home on Forest Hill Drive and Dabney Road (near Glade Spring, Washington Co.) after their father's death in 1888. They were photographed on the porch of the log house that same year.3 |
Will | Jan 1883 | Florence and Emily wrote identical wills in January of 1883, leaving each other the entirety of their estate. The wills each contained a codicil clarifying that on the surviving sisters death the land was to be divided equally among their siblings or their heirs.4 |
Codicil | | Florence later added additional codicils to her will. In the first she instructed that should Estella and Anna Rogers die without children (or should their children die without children) their share of the property was to return to Florence's other heirs. She specifically instructed that the girls' father, Thomas Rogers (or his children by his last wife), was not to inherit anything.5,6 |
Cens-1900 | 9 Jun 1900 | The 1900 census recorded Florence at 70 and and Emma at 64. Their niece, Estella Rodgers, the 23 year old daughter of their deceased sister Sally was living with them.7 |
Cens-1910 | 28 Apr 1910 | After Emily died in 1909, Florence's nephew Harry B. Dunn, along with his wife and children, moved into the house with Florence.8,3 |
Codicil | 20 Feb 1912 | In a final codicil to her will, dated Feb. 20th, 1912, Florence gifted her house, yard and stables to Harry B. Dunn "for living with me and taking care of me in my old age."9 |
Death | 15 Nov 1914 | Florence died on 15 Nov 1914 at age 84.1 |
