Birth17 May 1792 Armstrong Beattie was born on 17 May 1792, probably in Washington County, Virginia.3 
Devisee30 Jul 1805  Armstrong's father wrote his will in 1805 when Armstrong was still underage. He instructed that Armstrong's schooling was to be provided for and stipulated that when Armstrong turned 21 the family plantation, along with the necessary farming tools, was to be divided between he and his brother, David. Armstrong was also willed a Negro boy named Joe.1 
Marriage He married Elizabeth Scott, daughter of William Scott and Jane Whitely
Legatee17 Oct 1818  Armstrong's mother, Mary, writing her will in Oct. 1818, left Armstrong $1.00 without comment. Neither was he given a share of the property remaining in her estate after specific legacies to her other children were met.2 
Will30 Dec 1819 Armstrong's own will, dated Dec. 30th, 1819, left his entire estate to be equally divided between his wife Betsy and his son William. Betsy was also appointed executor; witnesses were John Robinson and David Beatie.4 
Will-Recd18 Jan 1820  According to Washington Co. Will Book 4, Armstrong's will was recorded in court on January 18, 1820. However, according to a transcription of his headstone this was two days before he died.5 
Death20 Jan 1820 Armstrong died on 20 Jan 1820 according to the date reported for his headstone. He was 27.3 
Burial He was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3 
  Armstrong's mother also died in January 1820. 
  Armstrong's infant son William died in 1821, a few months before his 3rd birthday. William's half of Armstrong's land descended to Armstrong's siblings or their heirs.
