Birth21 Jul 1823 Catherine Ryburn was born on 21 Jul 1823.2 
Cens-Sum Catherine did not marry, and hence, as was the custom of the day, she spent her entire life living with other family members. For many years after her father's death in 1845, Catherine lived with her widowed mother and 2 sisters, Eliza and Sarah.3,4 
  In 1868 Eliza married and in 1874 the girls' mother died.5 
Cens-18801 Jun 1880  Catherine and Sarah then made their home with their sister Eliza and her husband, John Jones.6 
Exec-Legatee23 Jul 1882 Sarah died in the summer of 1882, leaving her estate to Catherine and naming her as her executor.7 
Legatee  Then in 1899 Eliza also died, again leaving her estate to Catherine. On Catherine's death Eliza stipulated that her land was to be sold and the proceeds divided among other family members, including the womens' brother, William S. Ryburn.8 
Cens-19004 Jun 1900  A month after Eliza's death, in January of 1900, William also died. When the 1900 census was enumerated that June, Catherine was living with William's daughter, Sarah, and her husband, William Snodgrass.9 
  It is possible that they were all still residing on portions of the same Ryburn land that had been in the family for years. 
Residence In the last years of her life Catherine was cared for by her niece, Pamelia Jane (Carpenter) Calhoun and her husband, John. 
Will16 Apr 1907  When Catherine wrote her will in April 1907 she left her property, both real and personal, to them in "consideration of their caring for me in my old and last days."10 
Death18 Mar 1908 Catherine died on 18 Mar 1908 at age 84.2 
Burial She was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.2
