FatherWilliam Stewart1 b. abt 1749, d. 14 Nov 1824
MotherMary Orr
Birthcirca 1792 Jane Stewart was born circa 1792 in Virginia estimated from the age on her headstone.2
Marriage7 Nov 1816 She and Patrick Ryburn, son of William Ryburn and Mary (?),were married by Rev. Edward Crawford on 7 Nov 1816 in Washington County, Virginia.3,4
Cens-Sum  Patrick was enumerated as the head of a household on the 1820, 1830 and 1840 Washington County census records. He was enumerated in the expected age brackets, as were his known children, with one exception. There appears to be one extra female on both the 1820 and 1830 census. She falls into the 0-9 age category in 1820 and the 10-14 category in 1830. This suggests there might have been an additional daughter born about 1819. If that is the case she either died or married before 1840.5,6,7,8
Widowed1845 Jane was widowed when Patrick died in 1845.
Cens-185010 Sep 1850  She continued to reside on the family farm and provided a home for her unmarried daughters. In 1850 Jane was enumerated with Eliza, 29, Catherine 27 and Sarah, 18.9
Cens-186031 Jul 1860  Ten years later the four women were again recorded. Jane's son William and his family lived next door.10
Death12 Mar 1874 Jane died on 12 Mar 1874.2
Burial She was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.2

  8. [S16] There is a marriage record in Washington County (Nov. 1838) for an Elizabeth Ryburn to a John Wedding. Elizabeth has to be considered as a candidate for the unidentified female in Patrick's household. However, she is not mentioned in his will, despite the fact she was alive when he wrote it. Either Patrick deliberately did not mention her or she was not his daughter. It is also possible Elizabeth was the daughter of Patrick's brother James.
