Birth11 Jul 1813 James Buchanan was born on 11 Jul 1813.3
Marriage6 Aug 1835 He married Rebecca Harris on 6 Aug 1835 in Washington County, Virginia.4
Cens-1850Sep 1850  James and Rebecca farmed land in Washington County and raised a family that numbered at least 9 children. Oddly, the family was enumerated twice in 1850, once on Sept. 5th and again the next day. The same enumerator entered both sets of data but the information isn't identical. On the 5th James was recorded as 30 years old; on the 6th he was 36. Rebecca aged overnight as well, from 25 to 36. Six children were listed with them on both census entries and although their ages were similiar on both records they were not identical. The youngest child was recorded as Ransom, age 2, on Sept. 5 and David, age 2, on Sept. 6.5,6
Cens-186019 Sep 1860  In 1860 the household included James (45), Rebecca (44), Samuel (22), Lilburn, 19, John, 17, Joseph, 15, James, 13, Catharine, 9, Robert, 5, and Benjamin, 3. The census entry also noted that James owned land valued at $400 and son Samuel was an apprentice carpenter.7
18 Jun 1863  Son Lilburn joined Co. F of the 37th Infantry in the early days of the Civil War as did two of his cousins. All 3 young men were lost in the war. Lilburn died from typhoid fever in June 1863.8
Death25 Dec 1866 James died on 25 Dec 1866 at age 53.9
