Elizabeth Barrick

b. circa 1784
FatherPhilip Barrick1 d. 1837
BirthCircacirca 1784 Elizabeth Barrick was born circa 1784.2
Marriage24 Mar 1809 She married Joseph Buchanan, son of Joseph Buchanan, on 24 Mar 1809 in Washington County, Virginia.3
Widowedbefore 19 Mar 1822  Elizabeth was widowed prior to 19 March 1822 at which time she was named guardian of her children Mary, David, John and Catherine Buchanan, orphans of Joseph Buchanan, deceased. Elizabeth was required to post a $600 bond. Philip Barrack provided her surety.4
Elizabeth was also the mother of Solomon Barrick who was born prior to her marriage to Joseph Buchanan. In the years following Joseph's death Solomon purchased the interest of Joseph's heirs in the tract of land on Plum Creek in Washington County that had been deeded to Joseph Buchanan by his father in 1807.

When Solomon wrote his own will in Nov. 1848 he left the same land to his mother. On her death it was to become the property of Solomon's half-sister, Catherine Buchanan.
Cens-18507 Aug 1850  Elizabeth and Catherine lived on the land at the time of the 1850 census enumeration. Elizabeth's entry recorded her age as 66 and noted that she owned land worth $2,000. Catherine [who was her youngest daughter], was 30.5
Since Solomon Barrick did not marry, it is likely he lived on the land with his mother and half-sister prior to his death in 1849.
Cens-18608 Jul 1860  Catherine married Parent Lovern in 1851. In 1860 he was recorded as the head of a household that included 75 year old Elizabeth Buchanan whose land by then was worth $4,000.6
