Birth-Saysay 1766 Ann Hutton was born say 1766 in Pennsylvania.
Migration  In the early to mid 1780s Ann's parents brought the family down the Great Wagon Road into Virginia where they settled in Washington County.
Marriage15 Sep 1787 She married Joseph Snodgrass, son of John Snodgrass, on 15 Sep 1787 in Washington County, Virginia.4,3
Joseph and Ann grew up on adjacent farms on the waters of Stalnakers [later Bakers, then Hutton Creek] in Washington County. Ann's sister Margaret Hutton married Joseph's brother John Snodgrass. Both couples settled on the land Joseph and John's father acquired in 1786. Joseph purchased the the east half of his father's tract in 1794.5,6,7
Land-Buy10 Oct 1807  Joseph purchased an additional 198 acres from John Todd in Oct. 1807. It sat just east of the acreage Joseph acquired from his father.8
Widowedbetween Oct 1827 and Mar 1828  Joseph's will was recorded at Washington Co. court in March 1828. He left Ann her dower third in his land and personal property. In addition he left her a Negro woman Sarah and her child. The will inferred that Ann lived with the couple's son William.9
Court Record1831  William migrated to Indiana in 1831. It appears Ann intended to move with him and take the slave(s) with her. Three of Ann's daughters and their husbands (John Eakin and Mary, James Orr and Jane, Arthur Hutton and Eleanor) brought suit in Chancery Court to stop Ann from taking the slaves out of Virginia. On Oct. 5, 1831 the court ordered Ann to post a $1,000 bond that she would not remove the slaves.10
If Ann moved to Indiana with William she probably died prior to 1840 as she was not enumerated in William's Owen County household that year.11
