Birth12 Dec 1831 Mary Ann Maiden was born on 12 Dec 1831 in Botetourt County, Virginia.1,4
Migration  When Mary Ann was 11 or 12 years old her parents moved the family south to Washington County where she met her future husband.
Marriage1847 She married Archibald Graham Leedy, son of Joseph Leedy, in 1847.1
Cens-185011 Jul 1850  Mary and Archibald lived with Joseph Leedy [his father] following their marriage. Archibald was employed as a carpenter. Two young children, John (1) and Margaret (6 mos) were also enumerated. Three Maiden men, William, James and Daniel [all Mary Ann's brothers] were neighbors.5
Moth-Death  Mary Ann's mother had died a few months prior to the census enumeration.
Migration  In late 1853 Archibald purchased the Washington County land of Mary Ann's sister Eliza. However, Archibald and his family must not have lived on it long as their daughter Mary was born in Springfield, (Greene County) Missouri in 1856.1
Their move west was part of a larger migration among the younger children of Joseph Leedy following his death. Archibald's brother Josiah settled in Springfield (Greene Co.), Missouri around 1853. His sister Eleanor and her husband William Doran also migrated to Greene County.
Cens-187023 Jun 1870  Mary and Archibald were enumerated in Springfield in 1870. Archibald was employed as a builder. He owned land valued at $5,000 and personal property worth $2,500. The family now included 6 children: John (21, clerk in store), Anna (20), Virginia (19), Mary (14), William (13) and Ella (3). The last 3 children were all born in Missouri.6
Cens-18809 Jun 1880 By 1880 Mary and Archibald had moved slightly further west, settling in Jasper County. At age 54 Archibald was still employed as a carpenter and builder. Mary Ann was 47. Also still at home were 2 daughters: Mary [enumerated as 21 but probably 24] and Ellen, 13. The family lived on North Orchard Steet in the city of Carthage.7
Cens-1900Jun 1900  Archibald died between the 1880 and 1900 census enumerations and at the turn of the century Mary Ann was again enumerated in Springfield. She was living with her 33 year old son Joseph at 1851 North Grant St. Mary Ann's entry stated that she was a widow and the mother of 6 children, all of whom were living. Joseph was single and worked as a dry goods salesman.8
Cens-191021 Apr 1910  Ten years later Mary Ann was again enumerated on Grant Street but she appeared to be living by herself although her son John and his family were listed 5 households away. Mary Ann was 78 years old and again stated that she was the mother of 6 children, all of whom were living.9
Death29 Nov 1913 Mary died on 29 Nov 1913 in Greene County, Missouri, at age 81.2
Burial1 Dec 1913 She was buried on 1 Dec 1913 at Hazelwood Cemetery in Greene County, Missouri.2
