Joseph Leedy1

BirthCircacirca 1778 Joseph Leedy was born in Wythe County, Virginia, circa 1778.2 
Will23 Feb 1850 Joseph wrote his will in the late winter of 1850. He left $1 each to Levina Davis, Eliza Hicks and Eleanor Doran, and $66 each to James Leedy, Josiah Leedy and Lorenzo Leedy. The remainder of his estate he left to "my son Archibald G. Leedy" who was also named executor.3 
Cens-185011 Jul 1850  A few months after writing his will Joseph was enumerated on the first federal census to record all members of a household by name. He was 73 and owned land valued at $1,600. Living with him was Archibald Leedy, 24, Mary A. Leedy 18, and two young children: John H. (1) and Margaret (6/12).4 [son Archibald, his wife Mary Ann and their two children] 
Deathbefore 25 May 1852 Joseph died before 25 May 1852 at which time his will was proved in Washington County Court.3 
  Several of Joseph's children left Virginia after his death. Sons Archibald and Josiah migrated to Missouri around 1853, as did daughter Eleanor and her husband William Doran. Daughter Eliza and her husband William Hicks followed later.
