Birth28 Dec 1834 Margaret Larimer was born on 28 Dec 1834.3
Margaret's father died in the spring of 1849; her mother married Andrew Hawk (who was significantly younger than she) the following March.
Cens-185019 Sep 1850 The 1850 census for Washington County, Virginia, was enumerated a few months after her mother's remarriage. Margaret and her siblings were all recorded with with their mother and stepfather, although they were listed under the surname Hawks and not Larimer. Margaret was 16; her stepfather was 19.4
However, it is quite likely Margaret was actually living with the family of her father's sister, Jane (Larimer) McCall, in whose household Margaret also appears to have been enumerated in 1850.5
Ward23 Sep 1850  In fact, a few months after the census was recorded, Jane's husband, James McCall, was named Margaret's guardian.6
Marriage5 Jun 1856 She married Levi J. Lester, son of Levi Lester and Hannah Sherwood, on 5 Jun 1856 in Johnson County, Tennessee.7
Cens-19006 Jun 1900  Margaret and Levi were recorded at the turn of the century in Washington County, Virginia, where they had also been enumerated in 1870 and 1880. The 1900 census reported that Margaret was the mother of 10 children, 7 of whom were living. Two of those children, Hannah (35) and Samuel (22) lived at home in 1900. Also present was 5 year old Levi Lester who was enumerated as a son but was actually a grandson [child of John Lester].8
Cens-191015 Apr 1910  Margaret, at age 73, was recorded as the head of the family in 1910 [Levi died in 1906]. This entry stated she was the mother of 8 children, all living.9
