BirthCircacirca 1815 John Ryburn was born in Indiana circa 1815.2,3
Marriage28 Sep 1837 He married first Margaret Russell on 28 Sep 1837 in Fayette County, Indiana.4
Cens-18401840  John was recorded as the head of a household in Orange Township, Fayette County in 1840. The household included a male and female age 20-29 (probably John and Margaret) and a boy and girl, both under five. In addition, a 10-14 year old female was present.5
Cens-18508 Aug 1850  It appears Margaret and the male infant listed in 1840 died before 1850. John was enumerated that year with only 10 year old Sarah in the household.2
John and Margaret may have also had 3 additional children who were born after the 1840 census but died before 1850. The 1850 Indiana census mortality schedule lists a Martha Ryburn who died in November [1849], at age 6. It also lists an Ann Ryburn who died in August [1849] at age 8. In addition there was an entry for a James Raibourn who died in March [1850] at age 1. Although the childrens' parents are not named in these records, John and Margaret appear to have been the only Ryburn couple living in Fayette Co. during this period.6,7,8
Marriage13 Nov 1850 He married second Diantha M. Gray on 13 Nov 1850 in Fayette County, Indiana.4
Cens-186014 Jun 1860  John and Diantha lived in Fairview Township in Fayette County. They were enumerated on 14 Jun 1860 with 3 Reburn [sic] children: Agnew, 8, James F. 6, and an unnamed 9 month old male.9
Cens-18704 Aug 1870  Ten years later, in 1870, Agnew and James were still living at home but the unnamed child was not listed. John reported owning real estate valued at $12,070.10
Religion John was a member of the United Presbyterian Church.11
John and Diantha may have had an additional child whose name is not known. According to a biographical sketch of their son Agnew, there were 5 children born to the couple.11
Death1872  John died in 1872 in Indiana following an injury.11
Diantha outlived John by 50 years. Her exact date of death is not known, but in 1920 she made her home in South Bend, Indiana with her granddaughter Cora Morrow (daughter of son Agnew) and Cora's family.12
