Moses Edmiston

Marriage Moses Edmiston married Rachel (?).1 
Land-Buy9 Aug 1778  On Aug 9, 1778 William and Elizabeth Edmundson [Edmiston/Edmondson] sold Moses Edmundson 168 acres on the [waters of the] Middle Fork of the Holston River in Washington County, Virginia, for £25.2 
  The tract sat at the eastern end of the 2,000 acres William Edmiston [later Col.] was granted in 1774 for his service in the French-Indian wars. 
Will12 Apr 1806  Moses wrote his will on April 12, 1806. He left his wife Rachel the land on which they were living; at her death it was to go to son Moses. Moses also left Rachel a Negro girl Rose and a Negro woman named Polly. Son John received a mare, as did son Moses. John also received a Negro boy named Ned. Moses left son David the land on which David lived and son William 40 shillings worth of property. Four of Moses' 5 daughters also each received 40 shillings in property: Hanah, Geon [Jean/Jane], Elizabeth and Rachel. Daughter Nancy received $10 worth of property. Moses appointed David Edmonson and John Edmondson as his executors. The will was witnessed by David Robinson and James Robinson.1 
Deathbefore 17 Jun 1806 Moses died before 17 Jun 1806 on which date his will was exhibited at court in Washington County.1 

Research Comment:

On Sept. 4, 1812 Moses and Rachel's son Moses (and his wife Jane) sold the land the younger man inherited from his father and on which Rachel had lived during her widowhood. The shape and placement of the tract (south of the Middle Fork of the Holston River and in the general vicinity of the community of Friendship) confirms that the elder Moses and Rachel lived on the tract they purchased from Col. William Edmiston in 1778. Any relationship between Col. Edmiston and Moses Edmiston, though highly possible, has not been confirmed.3
