Minter, widowed in 1856, was the father of a son and daughter who were approximately 13 and 9 when their father remarried. Though Minter was originally from West Virginia, and his children were born there, he had lived in the Smyth County, Virginia area during the Civil War. After his marriage to Isabella the extended family settled in Virginia. |
| | Minter was a successful merchant and businessman, owning the Colonnade Hotel in Abingdon (Washington Co., Virginia) from the late 1870s on. He was also the founder and president of the Bank of Marion in Smyth County. It was chartered in Feb. 1874.6,7 |
