Legatee22 Oct 1826  Moses Buchanan (Sr.'s) will left Moses an equal share of his father's estate with his sisters Elizabeth, Jane and Margaret, and his brothers James and Philip. His older brothers Hastings, Mathew and John received their father's lands and mill.1

Ward22 Nov 1841 On 22 Nov 1841 Moses and his brother Philip were named wards of Washington J. Bishop.3 
Legatee6 Feb 1858  Joanna Buchanan wrote her will in February, 1858. She left the land on which she lived and the bulk of her estate to her son Philip, who had remained on the family farm with her. Moses and his other siblings each received $5.00.2

  1. [S618] Moses Buchanan will (exhibited 21 June 1827/ 17 Jul. 1827), Washington Co., Virginia, Will Book 5: 356. The will was written 22 Oct. 1826. It mentioned wife Joanna, sons Hastings, Mathew, John, James, Philip and daughters Margaret, Elizabeth and Jane (Buchanan); also brother William and youngest child Moses Campbell Buchanan. The witnesses were James Edmondson and Samuel Edmondson. As no executor was named Joanna Buchanan was appt administrix. She posted bond in the amt of $5,000 with William Buchanan, John Katron, Robert Keys and James Edmondson providing security.
