Birth11 Jul 1829 John McCall was born on 11 Jul 1829 in Washington County, Virginia.3,4,5
Marriage He married Rebecca Jane Edmondson, daughter of William Moore Edmondson and Matilda Wedding.6
Fath-Death2 Jan 1855 John's father died on 2 Jan 1855. John served as his executor. Four of John's younger siblings were not yet of age in 1855 and the wording of the will suggests John was expected to run the farm for his mother.
Cens-187025 Sep 1870  John and Rebecca lived in the Saltville township area of Washington County in 1870. John owned land valued at $2,000. The household also included 9 children, who ranged in age from 16 year old Nancy to 6 month old Thomas.7
Migration In the latter 1870s John and Rebecca left Virginia and migrated west to Texas. Family stories relate that their oldest daughter Nancy Yeatts had already moved to Texas with her husband's family. John heard stories of the plentiful land in Texas and decided to follow them.3
Cens-188029 Jun 1880 The family apparently first settled in Wise County where John (50), Rebecca (44) and 8 of their children were recorded. This included their daughter Martha and her husband Ben Neikirk.8
One of the 8 children was a son born in 1873 in Virginia and named Abednego for Rebecca's grandfather, Abednego Wedding.
The family did not remain in Wise County be at some point moved slightly northwest, settling in Wichita County which sits on the Texas-Oklahoma state line.
Death26 Feb 1899 John died on 26 Feb 1899 at age 69.3,4,5
Burial He was buried at Highland Cemetery in Wichita County, Texas.5
Rebecca's 1900 census enumeration indicated that 2 of her 10 children were deceased. Those known (to me) to be living at the time, besides sons Francis and Abednego (who used the nickname Rider in 1900), included her daughter Nancy Yeatts (who was killed by lightning in 1901) and her son Henry (who died in 1935 in California).4,3
