George and Gertrude ("Gertie") were enumerated with 2 small sons: William and Ernest [enumerated as Conner?]. Jennie McSpadden, now 75, was also in their home. George stated that he owned his farm. His mother and sister Sarah were enumerated with George's brother Samuel, who appeared to be the adjacent household.8 |
The boys' mother died shortly after the 1920 census enumeration. In the years that followed the land was sold and the old Moore homestead, which had been in the family for several generations, was torn down.9 | ||
Cens-1930 | 10 Apr 1930 | George and Gertrude left Washington County and settled in Loudon County where they were enumerated in 1930. George, at age 50, reported that he was working as a farm laborer and renting his farm for $20 a month. Four children were now part of the family: William (16), Ernest (12), Irby (6) and Sarah (3).10 |
