Birth21 Dec 1798 John Scott was born on 21 Dec 1798.2 
Will24 Dec 1825  John wrote his will in Washington County, Virginia, on Christmas Eve, 1825. He asked that his executor sell his wagon and pay his cash debts. He left his share of a small tract of land on the Middle Fork of the Holstein River, as well as the proceeds of a debt due him by his cousin Samuel Scott, to Samuel, Robert and William [Scott], who John named as his brothers. He also instructed his mother, named as Jane Edmiston, to pay the same 3 brothers $30 in some form of property. John owned a small gray mare which he asked be sold and the proceeds divided among his half brothers and sisters who he named as David and Moses, and Sally and Ann [Edmiston]. The same 4 half siblings were allowed $2 worth of grain.1 
Death1825 John apparently died shortly after this will was written as his headstone states he died in 1825. He had just passed his 27th birthday.2 
Burial He was buried in Old Glade Spring Cemetery, Washington County, Virginia. John's sister Sarah Edmondson wrote her will in 1883 and asked her executor to place a marble headstone on the grave of her brother John.2,3 
Will-Recd17 Jan 1826  John's will was presented in Washington County court on the 17th of January 1826. It was proved on the oaths of John Robinson, Moses Robinson and John Robinson. John's brother Robert Scott, who had been appointed executor, posted a $1,000 bond with John Keys and Robert Scott as security.1
