Marriage He married Barbara Jane Howell. 
  Caleb and Barbara farmed land in the Saltville District of Washington County. There they raised at least 12 children who lived to adulthood. The 1860 census recorded the value of the family holdings just prior to the Civil War. Their land was stated to be worth $1,500 and they owned personal property worth $400. This would have included the value of a 70 year old slave.4,5,6,7 
Widowed12 Aug 1885 Barbara died on 12 Aug 1885. 
Marriage20 Jul 1886 He married Mary Catherine (Grant) Thayer, daughter of Archibald M. Grant and Mary M Galliher, on 20 Jul 1886 in Johnson County, Tennessee.8 
  Mary had been previously married to Robert Thayer.9 
ChildDeath18 Sep 1889  Caleb and Mary appear to have had at least one child together, a son named Archie, who drowned in a mill race in 1889 at the age of 2. He was no doubt named for Mary's father.10 
Widowed3 Sep 1894  Caleb was widowed a second time when Mary died on 3 Sep 1894.11,12 
Marriage4 Dec 1895 The following year, on 4 Dec 1895 at the age of 78, Caleb married America (Earl) Snider in Washington County. She was a 66 year old widow.13,14 
Death29 Dec 1898 Caleb died on 29 Dec 1898 at age 81.1 
Burial He was buried at Logan Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.1
