Legatee17 Mar 1823 Arthur's father, William Stewart, wrote his will on March 17, 1823, at which time Arthur was not yet married. William left Arthur a grey horse, a grey filly, a new rifle and a set of windsor chairs. In addition, Arthur and his younger brother Joseph were to divide the farming untinsels. They also each received a share of their father's estate and $200 from the sale of his land, which was to occur following their mother's death.2 
  Six years later Arthur married Mary Buchanan and the following year Joseph married Mary's sister Sarah. 
Marriage15 Sep 1829 He married Mary B. Buchanan, daughter of William Buchanan and Sarah Ryburn, on 15 Sep 1829 in Washington County, Virginia.3,4 
Cens-185018 Sep 1850 Mary and Arthur farmed land in Washington County where they raised a family of at least 8 children. The 1850 census enumeration recorded them with 7 of those children: Margaret (18), William (12), Mary A. (10), Joseph (8), Sarah (6), Robert (5) and Josephine (1).5 
Death5 Sep 1856 Arthur died of consumption on 5 Sep 1856 in Washington County, Virginia.1
