BirthCircacirca 1827 Elizabeth S. Edmondson was born in Virginia circa 1827.5,6
Moth-Death  Elizabeth's mother died when she was very young, possibly when Elizabeth was born or soon thereafter. In 1937, when Elizabeth was about 10 her father married for a second time. The 1840 census suggests Elizabeth was part of this household, along with her sister and young halfbrother.7
Marriage1849 She married John Blankenbeckler in 1849 in Washington County, Virginia.2
Cens-18601860 Elizabeth and John settled in Johnson County, Tennessee, following their marriage. The 1860 census recorded John as a 43 year old farmer who owned land worth $3,500 and personal property valued at $1,000. Elizabeth was 32. Five children were part of the family as well as a 12 year old named Hiram Ramsey and a 22 year old farm laborer named William Bone.8
Devisee1862  Elizabeth's father died in Washington County in 1862. His will left Elizabeth 130 acres "of the upper farm embracing several tracts of land in the valley, to be laid off as she chooses."3
Migrationbetween 1862 and 1865 It appears Elizabeth and John returned to Washington County about this time as their next 4 children were all born in Virginia.9
Cens-18701 Oct 1870 The 1870 federal enumeration recorded them in the in 4th division of the county. John owned real estate worth $1,100 and personal property worth $370. He was listed as a farmer. The household now included 8 children: Andrew (20), Robert (18), Martha (16), Zachariah (13), Virginia (8), Isaac (5), John (3) and Mary (1).6
Cens-18804 Jun 1880  John appears to have died a few years after this census as Elizabeth was listed as the widowed or divorced head of her household in 1880. One additional son, Charles, had been born following the 1870 enumeration.5

  9. [S2268] Research of Tom Colley, Hanceville, Alabama; Mr. Colley cites the 1880 U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedule, Washington Co., VA, 100th Dist., (Holston) entry for Z. P. B. Blankenbeckler: d. Mar; age 23; single; TN/VA/VA; schoolteacher; consumption; resident of county 20y; Physician, S. Remine. Note: If the information that Zachariah had been a resident of Washington Co. for 20 years is accurate the family may have returned to Virginia shortly after the 1860 census recorded them in Tennessee. However, this conflicts with the fact that daughter Virginia is stated to have been born in Tennessee abt 1862.
