Birth3 Oct 1871 Permelia Thompson Ryburn was born on 3 Oct 1871 in Virginia although the date appears to have been incorrectly recorded in the county birth register.4,5,1 
 Permelia's name appears to have been interpreted on some records as Pamelia or Parmelia. Her marriage record list her as "Mattie" and her headstone stone reads "Mittie." 
Marriage27 Mar 1901 She married Ephraim C. Tarter on 27 Mar 1901 in Washington County, Virginia.6 
WidowedApr 1916 Fifteen years after their marriage Ephraim died leaving Mittie a 47 year old widow. 
Cens-192020 Jan 1920  Four years later she was recorded on the 1920 census living on Railroad Avenue in Rural Retreat, Wythe County, Virginia with their three daughters, Ruth, age 17, Hattie, age 12 and Josephine, age seven. A son, Jasper, died as an infant in 1905. Interestingly, Hattie was also enumerated that January living with Mittie's brother and sister, William and Lucy Ryburn, in Washington County, Virginia.7 
Death25 Nov 1947 Permelia died on 25 Nov 1947 at age 76.4 
Burial She was buried next to her husband in Mountain View Cemetery, Rural Retreat, Wythe County, Virginia.4
