Fath-Death2 Nov 1889  Margaret was just shy of 4 years old when her father died while working for the railroad. 
Cens-19005 Jun 1900  In the years that followed Margaret's 2 sisters also died. The 1900 census enumerated Margaret and her surviving brother Mathew Ryburn "Rybe" living with their mother in the Glade Spring district of Washington County, Virginia.3 
Marriage9 Mar 1910 She married William L. D. Ryburn, son of William McNeal Ryburn and Harriet T. Flournoy, on 9 Mar 1910 in Washington County, Virginia. They were second cousins, once removed.6 
Cens-1910May 1910 William and Margaret lived with his mother in Washington County in 1910. The census taker recorded that they had been married two months.7 
Divorce14 Oct 1915 Margaret and William were divorced on 14 Oct 1915.8 
Cens-19202 Jan 1920 Sometime after she and William divorced, Peggy moved with her mother and brother to West Virginia. They were enumerated in Eckman, McDowell County in 1920. Peggy was teaching school.9 
Cens-193010 Apr 1930  By 1930 Peggy's brother had married and moved out on his own and her mother was not present. Peggy was boarding with a family in the Brown's Creek District of McDowell County and still teaching school.10 
 Peggie compiled a manuscript titled "Ryburn History" in 1959. A good deal of the information in it appears to have also been contributed to Elizabeth Allison's book Early Southwest Virginia Families which was published a year later. Ms Allison thanks Mrs. Peggie Shugart Ryburn in the forward to her book, and many of the errors in the Allison book appear in Ms Shugart's manuscript. 
Death18 Jul 1975 Margaret died on 18 Jul 1975 at age 89.4 
Burial She was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery where her headstone bears her maiden name.4
