Marriage | 28 Aug 1834 | She married John Davis, son of Robert Davis and Nancy McMillan, on 28 Aug 1834 in Washington County, Virginia.5 |
Migration | John and Sarah migrated west to northern Missouri shortly after their marriage. It appears they first lived in the non-county area that became Schuyler Co. in 1845. The couple's second son, Robert, born in 1837 or 1838, reported Schuyler County as his place of birth on Civil War records. In the fall of 1836 Sarah's mother and stepfather (Nancy Craig Mitchell Bovell and Rev. Stephen Bovell) migrated to Missouri as well. Upon reaching Huntsville (Randolph County) they traveled another 80+ miles to visit John [and Sarah] as well as John's sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Samuel Eason. This mileage is consistent with the distance between Huntsville and Schuyler County.6,7 | |
Cens-1840 | 1840 | However, John and Sarah did not make this northern location their permanent home. In 1840 John was enumerated as the head of a household in Macon County which lies north of Randolph County but south of Schuyler County.8 |
Cens-1850 | 18 Nov 1850 | By the time of the 1850 census, which named all members of the household, John and Sarah's family had grown to include 6 children: John 13, Robert 12, Mary L. 10, William 8, Francis 4 and Martha 2.9 |
Cens-1860 | 23 Jun 1860 | Ten years later the three oldest children were no longer at home, but two additional sons, Leonidas and Walter had joined the family.10 |
Cens-1870 | 30 Jul 1870 | Sarah appears to have lived apart from John and her sons in 1870. She was enumerated a few doors away from them, living with H. and Charlotte Marcy, Bertha Cox and several members of a Murphy family.11 |
Cens-1880 | 1 Jun 1880 | By June 1880 John and Sarah had moved into Macon City. They were both 68.12 |
