Research Comment:

There were several Robinson families in Washington County in the early 1800s. They favored the same names for their children, suggesting they were related, but also making it difficult to prove family connections. I believe the individuals named below represent the correct father-child relationships. John Robinson [III]'s own will referenced the land in Rockbridge Co. left him in the will of his father John Robinson [II]. Mitchell and Rachel Robinson sold land in Rockbridge Co. previously transferred to Mitchell by John [II] and Eleanor Robinson for $1 and love and affection. The names of the wives of all 3 sons: John [III], Mitchell and David is reported to have been recorded in the Robinson family Bible. All 3 men married Edmiston women, established elsewhere to have also been siblings. A 4th Edmiston sister, Jane, married Alexander Robinson and some researchers have connected him as an additional son of John Robinson [II]. Since there was no mention of a a son by that name in John's will I have not linked Alexander to this family. Further research into the land and probate records for John Robinson [II] in Rockbridge Co. may reveal more information.

Family

The correct birth order of John's children, all of whom were from his first marriage, is not known to me.
