Cens-Sum  Edward and Mary lived in McDonough County, Illinois. Census records suggest they were the parents of at least 4 children, all born in Illinois: William, Rachel, James and Campbell. In 1850 they lived adjacent to Rachel Robinson who was probably the widow of Edward's brother Alexander.

Edward appears to have been a successful farmer, owning land valued at $6,000 by 1870. The 1870 household included Edward (59), Mary (63), Rachel (28) and Campbell (20), as well as a "domestic servant."4,5,6 
Land-Sell6 Nov 1867  In 1867, while living in McConough County, Edward and Mary sold their 1/6 interest in the lands of Edward's sister Jane at Ebbing and Flowing Spring Farm in Washington County, Virginia.3
