Birth4 Jan 1842 Samuel Buchanan was born on 4 Jan 1842, probably in Washington County, Virginia.2 
Military24 Jul 1861 On 24 Jul 1861 Samuel enlisted in Co. H. of the 37th Regiment, Virginia Infantry. They were known as the Kings Mountain Rifles. Samuel's cousin, Samuel Harris joined the company at the same time as did another cousin Lilburn Buchanan. None of the 3 young men survived the war.3 
Death3 Jul 1863 Samuel died on 3 Jul 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, at age 21. He had been wounded the previous day.4
