Beatie –                                                                             185 [in circle]
Josiah N. Beatie died=1845, leaving a widow and
several infant children.  He owned about 1,000 acres of land
in Andrew CO and lots 1-2+3 in the Town of St. Joseph.
Prince L. Hudgins of Savannah was named ___. [Admin?]

In Dec 1844 Beatie borrowed $1525 of one Butler
and bought a stock of goods of Butler & Lynes partners
in trade for $2147.52 and gave his note for $1525
payable on Jan 4, 1846 [could also be 1847 because a seven is written on the six] with 10% interest.  He
mortgaged the St. Joseph lots and the Andrew Co land
to satisfy this ___. [may be the word “mortgaged” misspelled]  Butler foreclosed and the lands were advertised “at the town of St Joseph.”

The heirs at law & widow of Beatie sued to set aside these deeds – Case tried = Buchanan County Circuit court – Decided July 1855 Supreme Court of Mo – Beatie et al v Butler & Fowler    21 Missouri 313.
