[It is not clear who typed the list below; the handwritten comments appear to be Mrs. Thatchers. This is likely the list she referred to in her previous letter to Judge Cole. If so, the list came to Mrs. Thatcher in 1917 from a W.E. Beattie, who acquired it in 1900 from Mrs. Amanda Ernest, who obtained the data from her aunt (by marriage) Mrs. Martha Beattie, wife of Madison Beattie]
JOHN BEATTIE
Born and married in Ireland – his wife’s maiden name Ellen Gilmore. They first settled in Maryland, then removed to Rockbridge County, Va. All his family born in Maryland and Virginia. He moved to Washington County, VA. in 1772 and settled on the farm now occupied by the family of Mathew [should be Madison] Beattie, his grandson.
John Beattie’s descendents are as follows: four daughters and three sons.
1st. Mary—Married David Sawyers of Blythe Co. Va. She lived to be 100.
2nd. Nancy—Married Col. Dyscort [sic], who was Captain of a company at Kings Mountain – was wounded there – recovered and raised a large family.
3rd. Ellen – Married Robert Logan, lived near Danville, Ky., raised a good sized family.
4th. David – Married Mary Beattie, a distant relative – raised four sons one daughter – was captain of a company at Kings Mountain.
5th. Jane – First husband James Buchanan, raised one daughter who was mother of Col. R. B. Edmondson. Second husband, Mathew Ryburn of Washington Co. Va. respectable sized family.
6th John – Killed at battle of Kings Mountain – was never married – was Lieutenant in Edmondson’s company.
7th William – Married Mary Allison –when 19 years old – she was only 16 – daughter of William Allison – Fought in battle of Kings Mountain in his brother David’s company. They raised 13 children. The Indians were very troublesome then in that part of Virginia so they “forted” at Glade Springs church.
WILLIAM BEATTIE
Born Rockbridge Co.. Va in 1760, died March 4th, 1860, being about the last of the men who fought at Kings Mountain.

2nd John Married Sarah Edmondson-raised four daughters three sons.
3rd Robert Married Pauline White-raised three daughters three sons.
4th James Married Elizabeth Stephenson of Kent.-don’t know number of family.
5th Samuel Married Miss Denny of Ky.-raised three daughters two sons.
6th David Died in Missouri when young man-never married
7th JOSIAH N. Married Ellen [“X” to handwritten notation at bottom corrects Ellen to Eleanor] White-raised four sons one daughter

8th Ellen Married Richard White-raised two sons one daughter
9th Absolem Married Ellen Davis-raised one son five daughters
10th William Married Rhoda White, raised a large family

11th Fountain Fox Married Emily Hamlin of S.C., raised three sons. Born July 1807, died Dec. 31, 1863.
12th Nancy Dyscort [sic] Married Robert B. Edmondson –raised three sons three daughters
13th Madison Married Martha Ann Cunningham-raised three children as follows: W. Fountain, Geo. Andrew, and Mary Cunningham
