Mrs. B. G. Thatcher.

Dear Mrs. Thatcher:
Thanks for your interesting letter regarding the Beatties and the data enclosed, which I assume you intended that I should keep.  I have taken the data I have (a part of it only) and constructed a story trying to identify the Missouri Beatties.  You may keep the enclosed copy.  Please note it is tentative and most [sic] be accepted with some reservations, as I am not yet sure of some of the lines. On the face of it it looks like a correct outline. I have done much work trying to reconstruct some of the old Washington County Virginia families and have a rather complete sketch of the descendants of Col. Wm. Edmiston, which I will admit is more nearly correct than any account in existence.

I am intrigued by the statements you make concerning JOSIAH N. BEATTIE, your grandfather.  Is he the man who with wife Kezziah, died in Andrew County, Mo. in 1845?  I hope you can tell me about your grandfather, his migrations and where he resided.  I am particularly anxious to know where he was living when he died, and have a complete list of his children.  I half suspect the Josiah of Andrew County is your ancestor.  Your data is so alike that of Professor Beattie that I suspect a comparison of notes, or else the securing of data from a common source.

A brief review of the data contained in the enclosed sketch will show how easily one could mistake the identity of those early Virginia Beattie Families.  For example there are Davids and Williams galore, and one cannot be sure, without book and page data, that the wrong man is tied on a given tree.  This explains why I have not finally accepted as true the data I copied here and submitted herewith.  It may be correct.

Please write me your reactions and tell me everything you know of the life of Josiah N. Beattie after he left Virginia if he left there.

Hoping to hear from you soon, I am,
  Yours sincerely,

Redmond S. Cole, Box 92, Tulsa, OKla.
