  He was known as "Dodd."1 
Marriage1887 He married Florence West, daughter of James West and Eliza Jane Sorrey, in 1887.1,3 
  Samuel's uncle, Walter Clark Gardner, married Florence's sister Callie West. 
Marriagecirca 1898  Samuel and Florence divorced after a few years of marriage. Samuel married second Hattie Louise Allen circa 1898.4 
Cens-190022 Jun 1900  In 1900 Samuel and Hattie lived in Canyon City, Randall County, Texas, where Samuel was employed as a salesman. He was 37. Hattie was 22. Her entry indicated she was the mother of 1 child. Although a 1 had also been initially entered in the column for "number of children living" it had been crossed out, suggesting the couple may have had a first child who did not survive.4 
Death26 Sep 1909 Samuel died on 26 Sep 1909 in Stanley, Santa Fe County, New Mexico, at age 47.1
