Marriage25 Aug 1853 He married Hettie Jane Sharp, daughter of Benjamin Sharp and Margaret Montgomery Edmondson, on 25 Aug 1853 in Washington County, Virginia.4,5 
  Besides caring for his own land it appears Adam managed the farm of William E. Jones (later General "Grumble" Jones) during the early days of the war. Writing from Manassas Junction on Jan. 24th, 1862 William instructed Adam on where to plant vines that spring (William had planted a vineyard after a trip to Europe before the war), what crops to grow on other parts of the property and what trees to plant near the house.6 
Military6 May 1862  Adam enlisted in Company F of the 63rd Virginia Infantry on 6 May 1862 in Washington County. He served as first sergeant under Capt. J. Snodgrass.7 
Death2 Apr 1863 or 2 Apr 1864 Adam died on on 2 Apr 1863 or 2 Apr 1864 at Emory and Henry Hospital.8
