Birth4 Jul 1867 Robert Buchanan Edmondson was born on 4 Jul 1867 in Glade Spring, Washington County, Virginia.3 
Childhood  Robert was the third child, and eldest son of his parent's 6 children. When Robert was about 7 his father died. Robert's mother kept the family farm running and also taught school.1,2 
Migration1886  In 1886 Robert migrated west, settling near the village of Saticoy, in one of the fertile coastal valleys of Ventura County, north of Los Angeles.4  
  Robert's younger brother William settled in the same area. Two of Robert's first cousins from Virginia, Nannie Beattie (Dickenson) Franklin and Ellen White (Dickenson) Thurmond, had settled in neighboring Santa Barbara County at least 14 years earlier. Another cousin, Laura (Dickenson) Gardner and her husband, Edwin Lee Gardner, came out from Virginia around 1889 and settled near Saticoy as well. Edwin Gardner was Robert's second cousin. Edwin's brother George Gardner migrated to Saticoy a few years later. 
Marriage15 Nov 1898 Robert married Elizabeth Josephine (Thacker) Crinklaw on 15 Nov 1898 at San Luis Obispo, California.5 
  Elizabeth was a widow with 4 children.  
Cens-1900Jun 1900  Robert and Elizabeth first lived in Hueneme township in Ventura County.6 
Cens-19102 May 1910  By 1910 they had moved to Maulhardt Rd. in Oxnard township. There they were enumerated with their two children (Fannie and Robert) and 3 of Elizabeth's children. A hired hand helped with the farm.7 
Cens-19202 Feb 1920  Robert's 1920 census entry indicates that he was a bean farmer. Robert's brother William, who in the intervening years had moved to the coastal valleys north of San Diego, grew the same crop.8 
  Robert was also a pioneer grower of oranges and lemons.9 
Death5 Mar 1931 Robert died on 5 Mar 1931 in Oxnard, Ventura County, California, at age 63.10 
  He had fallen from the roof of a water tank while making repairs on his ranch a few days earlier.4 
Burial He was buried at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura, California.11
