Birth18 Jun 1871 Charles Cole Edmondson was born on 18 Jun 1871 in Lodi, Washington County, Virginia.4,5
Cens-18805 Jun 1880 Charles grew up on his parents farm in the Holston District of Washington County. He was the 5th child and 4th son in a family of 11 children, all but 2 of whom survived to adulthood.2
Marriage9 Oct 1895 He married Minnie Mae Hagy, daughter of George Hagy, on 9 Oct 1895 in Washington County.6,5
The couple's first child, daughter Ruth, died soon after birth in the summer of 1896. Charles and Minnie may have been living in West Virginia at the time. If not, they moved there shortly thereafter as their second child was born in West Virginia in 1899.
Cens-190016 Jun 1900 In 1900 Charles and Minnie were enumerated in the Browns Creek district of McDowell County, West Virginia, where Charles worked as an office clerk for the railroad. Minnie was recorded at home with 11 month old Samuel.7
Residence  The next two children born to the couple (Elizabeth in 1902 and Charles in 1904) were also born in West Virginia but by the birth of Manson in 1906 Charles and Minnie appear to have returned to Bristol, Virginia.
Cens-19101910 In 1910 they were enumerated living on the Tennessee side of Bristol where Charles was employed as a yard conductor by the railroad. The couple had been married 15 years. Minnie had given birth to 5 children, 4 of whom were living and recorded at home with her (Samuel 10, Elizabeth 8, Charles 6 and Manson 4).8
Migration In 1911 Charles and Minnie joined other members of his family who were already living in Union County, New Mexico.5
Land-Patent9 May 1916 On 9 May 1916 Charles received a homestead patent for 320 acres of land in Union County under the 1909 Homestead Entry Act. The land was in sections 4 and 9 of township 26N, Range 36E, the same township and range in which his father homesteaded 320 acres.9
Sep 1918  Charles and Minnie's son Samuel completed his WWI draft registration in September 1918 while a student at NMMI [New Mexico Military Institute] at Roswell in Chaves County, New Mexico.10
Cens-193028 Apr 1930 The 1930 census for Union County recorded Charles and Minnie living on their own. Charles stated that he owned his own home and was a farmer. He was 59; Minnie was 57.11
Although none of their children were enumerated living with them in 1930 several appear to have remained in Union County as adults. Son Samuel died in 1979; his social security records indicate his last place of residence as Union County. Charles and Minnie's son Manson died in 1990; his social security records also indicate his last place of residence as Union County. Son Charles died in 1984; his residence was indicated as San Diego County, California.12,13,14
Death5 May 1938 Charles died on 5 May 1938 at Clayton in Union County, New Mexico, at age 66.3,4,5
Burial He was buried at Clayton Cemetery.4
