Devisee5 Mar 1917  Ambler was gifted 75 acres of his father's home tract when James wrote his will in 1917. The will was probated in 1924 when James died. Ambler and his brother Harry (who also received a substantial portion of their father's land) were to pay various cash bequests in return. 
Milit-Reg12 Sep 1918  Ambler completed the World War I draft registration process on 12 Sep 1918 in Washington County. He was listed as a single man who was of short height with light brown eyes and black hair. His place of residence was listed as Lodi, Virginia.3 
Cens-192022 Jan 1920  Ambler did not marry and on all census enumerations available to us was listed as a member of either his father's or an elder sibling's household. In 1920, at age 29 he was enumerated as a farm laborer in his father's household.4 
Cens-19301 May 1930  In 1930, following the death of both of their parents, Ambler's brother Harry was recorded as the household head.5 
Death26 Mar 1966 Ambler died on 26 Mar 1966 in Washington County, Virginia, at age 75.1 
Burial He was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.6
