Birth15 Nov 1846 Sarah Rebecca Crenshaw was born on 15 Nov 1846 in Virginia.1 
Anecdote  Sarah Rebecca was known in the family as Aunt Sissy. She was engaged to a soldier during the Civil War who cut his leg playing mumbly peg. It became infected and he died. She never did marry.4 
Cens-Sum  While her parents were living she remained at home with them.5,6 
Cens-Sum  Following their deaths she lived with other family members. The 1900, 1910 and 1920 census records all recorded her as a member of the household of her nephew, George Sanders Crenshaw. The 1910 entry identified the location of the family farm as "Yellow Springs Rd.". Sarah was listed that year with the occupation of "companion."7,8,9 
  Sarah also lived for some time with her niece Sarah (Booth) Smyth.10 
Cens-19305 Apr 1930  And in 1930 Sarah was enumerated with 30 year old William Crenshaw [George's son and Sarah's great nephew]. Sarah was 85.11 
Anecdote  Sarah was very independent and was known to occasionally smoke a pipe.12 
Death15 Sep 1934 Sarah died on 15 Sep 1934 according to her headstone, however a family record states she died on the 13th and an abstract of the Washington Co. death register uses the 17th.13,14,15 
Burial She was buried at Rock Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.1
