Name Other  Mary's full name is not clear. Her daughter submitted a DAR application which is reported to have used Mary Montgomery Edmonson Gardiner. However other records use Mary Elizabeth Graham Gardner.2 
Childhood  Mary probably spent most of her childhood on her parent's farm in Washington County, Virginia, where the family was enumerated in 1840. However in 1850 the family was recorded in neighboring Smyth County. Mary was 24; her 8 younger siblings were also recorded. Mary was listed as "Mary E."4,5 
Marriage10 Oct 1854 She married Charles Woolfolk Coleman on 10 Oct 1854 in Hanover County, Virginia.3
