Birth19 May 1893 Sallie B. Dunn was born on 19 May 1893 in Virginia.1,5,6 
Childhood Sallie grew up in Washington County. Her family lived in a large white house on Old Mill Road in Glade Spring.7 
Cens-191021 Apr 1910  Sallie's father died in 1908. The 1910 census recorded Sally's 50 year old mother, Mary Dunn with her 3 daughters, Cloydine (22), Sallie (17) and Florence V.[Virginia] (15). Mary Dunn died a few weeks later.8 
Migration  Following her mother's death it appears Sallie moved to Scioto County, Ohio where her older brother Walter was working for the railroad and living in the city of Portsmouth. Sallie probably met her future husband after she moved to Ohio as that was his place of birth. He may have even been an acquaintance of Sallie's brother Walter, as both men worked as railroad conductors. Sallie's younger sister Virginia may have accompanied her to Ohio. 
Marriage She married Dan Yates in Portsmouth.9 
Residence By July 1911 the couple had settled in Columbus, Ohio.7,10 
Cens-Sum  There they were recorded on both the 1920 and 1930 census enumerations. A son Samuel was born about 1918 and a second son arrived about 9 years later. Daniel reported his occupation as railroad conductor on both census records.11,12 
Marriage She married (?) Barbour.13 
DeathMay 1972 Sallie died in May 1972 in Licking County, Ohio.6

  1. [S2676] Family records, Stephen Alonzo Jackson (d. 1892) Notebook, held in 2011 by Jackson descendants. Stephen Jackson was Cloydine's uncle; the half-brother of Mary Scott (Jackson) Dunn. However, Sallie's entry was made following Stephen's death, possibly by Stephen's widow, Mary (Ernest) Jackson. It reads "Sallie Byars [Dunn] Born May 19, 1893."
  2. [S52] Letter, Carolyn Ryburn to Diana Powell, 15 Oct. 2001. Carolyn cites a chart on the Dunn family compiled years ago by she and her mother, Emma Leta Dunn Ryburn (a grandniece of Samuel B.R. Dunn). It recorded Sallie's middle name as "Belle."

He kept a notebook in which he recorded the names and dates of Mary's children. Children born after Stephen's 1892 death were entered by another family member, possibly some years after their birth as all of the dates to not appear accurate.
